About the Program
The Program titled “Historical Archives Management in Digital Environment” is offered by the Department of Library, Archival & Information Studies of the School of Social Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering of the Polytechic School. It focuses on the management of historical archives—records that no longer serve administrative purposes but possess enduring historical or legal value—leveraging new technologies to meet the demands of the digital era.
Historical archives include records produced during the operation of an organization, such as public administration bodies, banks, educational institutions, museums, cultural organizations, etc., as well as private individuals. These contain significant evidence and information about the organization or individual. To ensure the preservation and uninterrupted access to these unique information sources in the modern digital age, their proper management is essential. This must be based on the fundamental principles of archival science while utilizing the capabilities offered by modern technologies. Therefore, effective management of historical archives today requires a combination of archival methodology, historical knowledge, and technological expertise to ensure their preservation and future use.
The goal of the Program is to provide students with specialized knowledge in the principles, practices, and standards of archival science, historical knowledge (administrative, European, etc.), as well as skills in using and applying innovative digital technologies. At the same time, it seeks to promote knowledge and advance research in the organization, management, and utilization of historical archives.
